Mentor Advocacy

This page introduces the GCMLA Mentor Advocacy initiative.  This provides ideas and resources for local non-profits and the general community who want to consider (more) volunteer mentoring.

Would you consider being a volunteer mentor at a local non-profit?  Are you already a volunteer mentor?  Behind the scenes, a small group is working on a Mentor Advocacy initiative.  Our hope is to harness our collective ideas and energy to encourage volunteer mentoring across Greater Cincinnati.

Our Goals:

  • Encourage the general community to consider volunteer mentoring.
  • Support local non-profits in their recruiting of volunteer mentors.

Background:

Mentoring, at its core, guarantees (young) people that there is someone who cares about them, assures them they are not alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges, and makes them feel like they matter. Research confirms that quality mentoring relationships have powerful positive effects on (young) people in a variety of personal, academic, and professional situations. Source:  Mentoring.org.

Each Member of the Alliance has a unique mission, some are focused on youth, others adults; some are focused on education, others employment.  Individuals who want to mentor can find a fit with various local non-profits.
